Stop Party Drug Deaths Appeal

This appeal aims to tackle the problem of drug and alcohol misuse before it begins. Let’s work together to ensure our young people get the facts on illicit and legal drugs, and help prevent our youth dying of overdoses.

32 people died each week of accidental drug overdose in Australia in 2017. 86 people were taken to hospital from one Hunter based music festival alone in 2018. Another tragic death occurred just after Christmas 2018 where another young person lost their life due to dangerous drug use.

As we move into the party season, childhood health education organisation Hunter Life Education is calling on local residents and businesses to support preventative drug education in a bid to reduce drug related harm in the community.

We want to reach every one of the 12,500 Year 6 & 7 students in the Hunter to give children the opportunity to attend these valuable lessons. The call is going out to all of our community members - public and business - to help us prevent harm coming to our
young people.

Education and having access to the right facts is key to helping young people make safer and healthier decisions surrounding drug use and experimentation as they navigate their way to adulthood. The 'Decisions' education module developed by Life Education is designed to provide young people, specifically to upper Primary and lower High School aged children, with factual information on current illicit and legal drugs on the market, how they affect the body, strategies to avoid falling prey to peer pressure and safe decision making skills.

By donating just $26 you can ensure one student can attend a lesson for free.

Please help us make a difference in the lives of young people who then go on to be young adults in our community.
